This past weekend was Dengeki 20th and the annual DGS public recording took place on Sunday, October 21 at 1PM at Stage 2. The episode will air this week on DGS #290.
I arrived at Makuhari Messe around 9AM on Saturday. Already there was a very, very long line. Doors opened at 10AM and I got in around 10:15. My first stop was the Bunka Housou booth where I picked up the HiroC and OnoD tshirts, and the Nyaa san strap. It was funny because the staff guy asked me, “You don’t need an Oinarisan?” XD Nnn… Sorry. I don’t buy Frisk so I have no use for it. I guess the staff were afraid they might end up with extras so they were trying to get people to buy, LoL. Yagihashi kun was at the booth and people could take pictures with him. I wanted just a picture of him alone but he said he would be lonely so I had to jump into the photo. ^^; I didn’t really have anything to say to him so I just shook his hand and thanked him for the photo. After, I tried going to the Girls’ Shop in the other hall to get the DGS Hibiki goods but OMG, the line……… It snaked about three long rows and then turned the corner. I lined up for about an hour but then got out since I would miss the first stage event. I ended up going back there near closing time. There was no line at that time and I was able to easily buy the DGS Hibiki art book and new drama CD. Unfortunately I didn’t realize that there were some DGS sign/illustration boards in the gallery area so I didn’t go to take photos. (Dengeki Online has photos of them here.) I did take photos of the DGS Hizuki exhibit however. There was a large color illustration panel, designs of HiroC and OnoD in their different forms, and rough sketches of the logo, etc.
Word was that the event staff were being strict about overnighting so instead of lining up outside, my friends and I stayed over at the karaoke place near the station and timed our lining up with the first train. I had an awkward moment because as I headed to the karaoke place, I had to go through the train station (the karaoke place is on the other side) and as I went through, UchiP was walking in the other direction. He saw me and immediately averted his eyes, probably because I was wearing a DGS tshirt. ^^;;;;; Yeah, not too sure what to think about that, LoL. Anyway, even though we left earlier than when the first train was supposed to arrive, there were already around 300 people lined up! It was mostly guys but still there were quite a handful of girls (read: rivals). When the flood gates opened, my friends and I dashed over to Stage 2. For the first time ever, we didn’t get first row… We were second row, which is nothing to sneeze at, but still. =( Luckily I had a clear view between the girls in front of me. If the stage area and layout were like CharaHobby then I probably would have gotten first row. At Dengeki 20th, the standing area is only in the back behind the seating whereas at CharaHobby it was in the back and also on the right and left sides. My friends and I always got first row on the right side at CharaHobby.
On the first day there were no problems getting into the standing area to watch the stages but it was completely full on the second day. It was so full that they stopped allowing people in and once you got in, they wouldn’t let you out and back in. This means if you had to go to the bathroom (like me) then you had to hold it. >_>; Anyway, this just reminded me of how popular DGS is.
The DGS public recording was the second event for the day. 3 minutes before it began, Yagihashi kun and Chanko chan came up on stage to explain the usual rules (no photograph, recording, etc). They acted as if they had switched bodies though with Yagihashi kun wearing Chanko-like overalls and Chanko chan wearing clothes like something Yagihashi kun would wear. To get back into their own bodies they had to bump into each other. They left the stage after their mini skit and then the real show began!
As usual, there were many screams when the music started playing and Kamiya and OnoD took the stage. Kamiya was wearing a light-blue button-up shirt and OnoD wore a blue cardigan. OnoD greeted the crowd, exclaiming, “I’m back, Dengeki!” (The last time they had a public recording outside CharaHobby was at Dengeki 15th.) OnoD then did a few calls of “Mosu!” and Kamiya asked how many Dear Boys were in the audience. There were a number in the standing area and about 3-5 in the seated area. First up was a status check on the stock of CCP goods. To everyone’s surprise, the Ononarisan frisk cases were sold out! (FYI, they sold out on Saturday too.) There were still a few Nyaa san shippo straps and plenty of OnoD’s DandyT and Yagihashi kun’s shirts left, haha.
Kamiya and OnoD pointed out that they weren’t wearing the jumpsuits like they usually did, the reason being that Hibiki has ended. It was kind of sad to hear that, but they were wearing the shirts they made under. Both of them started to unbutton to show the shirts and OMG, Kamiya!! Kamiyaaaaaaa—!!!!! He held the mic with his right hand and with just his left hand began to unbutton his shirt from the top. It was as if he was used to unbuttoning his shirt with one hand. You can imagine all the screams. Guh, it was so sexy! I’m sure he must have practiced at home or something and the thought of him practicing in front of a mirror just makes me laugh. XD
They talked a little bit about DGS Hizuki and showed a new color illustration. It was of HiroC sitting in a chair with OnoD next to him. It looked very nice! The designs were a lot closer to the designs drawn by Saya for Hibiki. The rough designs first shown in last month’s SYLPH were a bit different.
The first corner was having OnoD guess what item was in front of him. If he guesses correctly then Dengeki will continue to prosper for years to come. Kamiya asked how many people listened to DGS the night before because they failed at their task (Jenga). In fact, they’ve never fully succeeded any tasks. XD OnoD sat on a high chair at the center of the stage and was blindfolded using the TeraikeMen mask. They put headphones on him so that Kamiya could tell the radio listeners what the answer was. Apparently the headphones were playing DGS Gakuen Kouka very loudly. XD Kamiya called out the “mystery item” and out came on stage 8 guys dressed up as MC Hammer with the black hammer pants and shiny gold shirts. (Refer to DGS #289.) Kamiya then did a Hammer pose with them.
After introducing the “mystery item,” they took the headphones off OnoD and Kamiya called for the item to be put in front of OnoD, and one of the guys came up and stood in front. OnoD was instructed to start feeling. He didn’t quite know what it was and Kamiya gave a hint by having the guy raise his arms, exposing his mid-section, and let OnoD feel again. OnoD mentioned that it was a warm skin feeling and guessed that it was the Puni Puni Dancers, but he was wrong. Kamiya gave another hint by having all the guys dance in a circle around OnoD. The dance was kind of like squatting and butt-shaking. XD Kamiya then mentioned “yesterday’s broadcast” and had the Hammers do another dance. OnoD then guessed “Hammerween” correctly. “U Can’t Touch This” started playing and both Kamiya and OnoD started dancing to it. OnoD was incredibly adorable. When the guys danced around OnoD, his chair was actually turned a few degrees and he was no longer facing center. XD Suwa san held up a sign that said, “You do it too, Kamiya san,” and Kamiya was forced to sit in the chair and have the Hammers dance around him. His chair rotated even further around than OnoD’s. XDDD Anyway, because OnoD guessed correctly, it meant that Dengeki was going to continue to be successful. FYI, the MC Hammers were students from Dwango Creative School.
Next was the Dear Voice corner. As always, they had the crowd participate. For Kamiya’s, the crowd had to yell out in rhythm, “HiroC! Daite! HiroC! Suki yo! (HiroC! Hold me! HiroC! I love you!)” and then Kamiya would ad-lib a line after. He got mad saying, “You know I’m no good at ad-libbing!” When it was time for the recording, the audience yelled their lines and then Kamiya said, “Junban da zo. (One at a time.)” which drew a huge cheer. For OnoD, the audience had to yell out, “OnoD! Dandy! Trendy!” and OnoD responded with, “Ore no asa wa Blendy (My mornings start with Blendy),” and then quickly added in, “Omae to issho ni nomitai na (I want to drink it with you).” (Blendy is a brand of coffee.) He was worried because he accidentally said a product name. XD
After the Dear Voice corner was the part everyone was waiting for that can only be experienced live at public recordings– Video shot by UchiP! The video they showed this time was a digest video of Kamiya’s birthday in Okinawa. It showed Kamiya exiting the airport and then quickly going back in to put on his jacket because it was freezing. At the beach it was very windy and rainy, and the video showed their umbrellas being upturned. XD The footage was mostly them at the beach and didn’t show Mabuya or the dinner they had at the restaurant. It ended with a “….?” though which lead a lot of people, including myself, that maybe the big announcement they were going to make was that the Okinawa video would be released on DVD. That was not the case though.
The next announcement was the cover for the new single, Boku tachi Dake no Monogatari, which can be seen here at the Chou! A&G online shop. After they showed part of the music video! It had Kamiya and OnoD singing in a library setting, and also showed a couple kids, which were the “other actors” that they mentioned on the broadcast the night before. The kids were “chibi HiroC” and “chibi OnoD.” FYI, this month’s issue of SYLPH includes a report about the filming of the music video.
Last was the really big announcement– The second DGS event will be held on February 23, 2013 at Nippon Budokan!! My goodness, the screams! Even my throat started to hurt a little bit from the cheering. Soooooooo happy!!! It was kind of funny because the night before I was joking with my friend that maybe the big announcement was going to be an event, and my friend said that if they had one, they should do it at Budokan. Who’d think we’d be right! Wow. Kamiya went on to say that it’s really strange to have a radio event at such a huge venue like Budokan, and I have to agree. ^^; The event is titled Dear Girl ~Stories~ Festival Carnival Matsuri. More details will be given at a later date. I think it might be published in SYLPH since this month’s issue says that details of “that news” will be available in the next issue. I’m assuming it’s referring to the event.
Before exiting, Kamiya and OnoD went and bowed to each part of the stage. After the public recording ended, everyone whipped out their phone, presumably to tweet about news of the event. XD
Kamiya and OnoD also appeared for the BROTHERS CONFLICT stage. They changed outfits and most of the stage was a public recording for the first episode of the new BroCon radio show.
After all the stage events were done, I went to change out of my cosplay and passing by the Bunka Housou booth, UchiP, Yagihashi kun, and Chanko chan were there promoting Yagihashi kun’s tshirt, trying to get a few extra sales. ^^; There was a large crowd taking photos and a few people bought the shirt. Yagihashi kun hugged one of them, which gave the girl a startle as she wasn’t expecting it. Anyway, had a great time though I was incredibly sleepy and my feet were absolutely killing me since I had been standing for about half the day and Converse shoes are very uncomfortable.
Again, the public recording will be airing this weekend on DGS #290 so we won’t have to wait long to listen to it. I’m absolutely psyched for the Budokan event. Even though the capacity is something like 14,000, there’s no guarantee that everyone will be able to get tickets. Hopefully I’ll be able to go!
